Intermediate Division
The Intermediate Division is comprised of Ballet I, Ballet IB, Ballet II, Ballet III and Boys Strength & Conditioning. Instructors focus on strengthening the fundamental principles of classical ballet technique, which is the foundation for the more complex movements that will be executed in the advanced division.
Students will advance from one level to the next through faculty evaluation, and at the discretion of the Artistic Director. The progress of each student is based on the individual’s technical ability, physical aptitude, strength, classroom effort and attendance. Advancement is based on ability, not age, and it is common for a student to repeat a level.
Performance experience is an integral part of a dancer’s training at Ballet Conservatory. All intermediate division students have the opportunity to participate in the End of Year Academy Showcase. Additional performance opportunities may be offered to students as part of the Ballet Conservatory performing company.
The minimum number of classes required for each level is listed below.
Ballet I
Class meets twice a week for a total of 3 hours per week and includes Stretch & Conditioning.

Ballet III
Class meets three times per week for a total of 5 hours 30 minutes per week (with the option to add 30 minutes of Contemporary each week).
In addition to the Ballet III core schedule, Contemporary dance is an important foundation in the growth of a ballet dancer. It implements versatility which can be used to improve ballet technique by helping a dancer better understand use of space and control of their body. Contemporary combines several elements of other dance genres such as ballet, modern, and jazz, all of which are necessary to build a successful dancer. *Contemporary is offered during the regular nine-month performance season. This additional course will not be offered during the six-week summer session.
